Overview

X-ray Free-Electron Lasers (XFELs) offer state-of-the-art capabilities for experimental research with X-rays. Modern theory and simulations play an essential role here as they are not only applied to explain the experimental observations but they are also instrumental to generate new ideas for designing new experiments. The aim of the Workshop “Theory meets XFELs” is to foster collaborations between theorists and experimentalists interested in research with XFELs. The Workshop is dedicated to recent theoretical developments in the fields of

  • Ultrafast X-ray Diffraction and Imaging
  • Ultrafast X-ray Spectroscopy
  • High Energy Density Physics
  • Ultrafast ARPES
  • Ultrafast Magnetism

and is complemented with excellent examples of experimental applications of XFELs in each of the fields.

The two and a half-day Workshop is planned to take place in hybrid mode with a possibility to attend it online and onsite in two locations:
2nd of November at European XFEL, Schenefeld,
3rd and 4th of November at CFEL/DESY, Hamburg.

Registration open: 15 August – 15 October 2022
Registration is free of charge for all participants.
The number of onsite registrations is limited to 50, and will be available on the first come, first served basis.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Schenefeld and Hamburg!

Workshop Organizing Committee:

Nils Brouwer (European XFEL), Ruslan Kurta (European XFEL),  Alexander Lichtenstein (University of Hamburg and European XFEL), Serguei Molodtsov (European XFEL), Beata Ziaja-Motyka (CFEL/DESY and IFJ PAN)
