Overview

Enabling novel real-time multi-messenger studies

A workshop in connection with the ZTF 2020 team meeting

Berlin, 26 - 27 March 2020

Multi-messenger real-time studies are in an exciting stage both in terms of ongoing observational programs as well as in terms of planning for upcoming large observatories. To ensure that these data are being optimally used we invite members of these communities to join for a two day workshop to discuss lessens learned from live operations as well as future plans. A main goal will be to ensure that follow-up facilities, tools, data formats and policies are all developed according to what is actually needed and at a pace such that the new data streams are fully used. We will also review the current (and rapidly shifting) status of the field.

This now fully virtual meeting has been divided into four 90 min sessions:

  • Session A: "Real-time multi-messenger campaigns to date." (Thursday March 26th 15.00 CET).
  • Session B: "Collaboration, community, coordination and cash (funding)." (Thursday March 26th 17.00 CET).
  • Session C: "Tools and methods for real-time multi-messenger studies." (Friday March 27th 15.00 CET).
  • Session D: "Next generation observational facilities." (Friday March 27th 17.00 CET).

Each session contains four or five speakers who will present their view on these topics, after which a moderator will lead the discussion. We have asked all contributers to provide material prior to each session. In this way these can be reviewed before the live session, and allow us to use more of the live time for questions. Please look at the timetable for more information.

We have created a Slack workspace for presentation uploads, questions and comments. You should have gotten an invitation to this -- if not contact the organizers. The Zoom link for the virtual meeting will be distributed in the #general channel in this Slack. (Note that this is a temporary Slack, only meant to be active during the workshop week, such that you can safely delete it afterwards. We do not want to permanently polute a potentially already long list of slacks...).

We encourage all participants to upload material they find relevant to a session to the corresponding Slack channel. In this way this can be directly incorporated into the discussion.
