Grand-Canonical Symmetric Orbifolds

Description

I will discuss grand-canonical ensembles of symmetric orbifold conformal field theories in two dimensions. I will begin with the simplest example, that of a topological field theory that computes Hurwitz numbers. I will introduce an efficient description of this grand-canonical ensemble in terms of an algebra of partial permutations, and use it to interpret the Gromov-Witten/Hurwitz correspondence as a duality between this ensemble and an A-model string. Then, I will extend this framework to general symmetric orbifolds and discuss some applications.
