Description
In this talk I will give my personal view on our understanding of the flux vacua of string theory. The aim is to make the talk accessible to non-experts. I will start explaining the importance of the size of the extra dimensions in addressing the cc hierarchy problem. Then I will discuss whether solutions with small cc can be constructed using only 10D supergravity with orientifold sources. Similarly I will explain what the obstacles are for finding de Sitter vacua in the same setting. Finally I will discuss the issues with going beyond string tree-level, such as the anti-brane uplifting of quantum corrected no-scale vacua.
