LCLS approach to the planning of instrumentation projects

Instrument projects are often complex and at a minimum involve many diverse groups. Detailed planning is critical to delivery of the hardware on time and within budget ready for commissioning. This talk will present the approach to this challenge adopted at LCLS with an example from the instruments and an example of an upgrade to the accelerator complex. The roles and responsibilities of the lead scientist and lead engineer will be outlined and the development of the resource-loaded schedule to deliver the tools that enable the science will be discussed with an emphasis on the installation phase.
