Minutes of NAF User Committee meeting from 10.12.2008 ----------------------------------------------------- Present: Steve Aplin (ILC), Wolfgang Ehrenfeld (ATLAS), Andreas Gellrich (NAF), Andreas Haupt (IT), Carsten Hof (CMS), Yves Kemp (IT), Kai Leffhalm (NAF), Niels Meyer (ILC), Hartmut Stadie (CMS) Excused: Jan Erik Sundermann (ATLAS) 1. News from the chair General announcements: Andreas Haupt and Yves Kemp are appointed as technical NAF coordinators. From Grid board: In the second week of February there will be a Alliance Grid Workshop at Munich. 2. Action items: New date/time for monthly meeting As expected this is not easy. Still, the second Wednesday each month is the best day for a meeting. The time will be announce by WE as soon as everybody doodled his preference. gsidcap: YK estimated the overhead in dCache access using gsidcap compared to dcap protocol of around 10%. Action item for more details for NAF, e.g. is the overhead per file/data volume. CMS confirmed that the CMS software has no problems with gsidcap. Registry web service: The service is working fine but the official address is still missing. Kai will follow up. Batch Monitoring: The capacity/accounting plot from the batch monitoring web page is not accurate enough, as it samples running jobs every 5 minutes. This needs to be fixed in order go have an accurate number of the batch efficiency. WE fill follow up with NAF admins. Open or Running Action Items: NAF: documentation for batch exit/failure codes NAF: details on overhead between dcap/gsidcap access, e.g. 1 GB file NAF: document software updates/changes NAF: nominal batch capacity static/dynamic in monitoring NAF: documentation for batch exit/failure codes 3. Status report The report was given by YK. Slides are on the agenda page. A few things were discussed: Software update documentation: After some discussion 'rpm -qa' is not enough for the experiment admins to get a complete picture of the NAF software status. In addition there is software outside rpm packages. Documentation of version updates are important for admins and users. WE will provide a proposal for the content of a software status web page. 4. Feedback from Aachen Meeting The user meeting at the Aachen meeting was well attended and some feedback given. See the agenda of the meeting for the slides. Somebody from CMS requested a general HN forum, but the impression is that there are enough discussion forums with in the experiments. Some Atlas user complained about the long compile time. This problem is under investigation. The plenary talk was given by WE. See the agenda of the meeting for slides. 5. AOB: For the NAF ILC and Calice are treated the same under one group ILC. Additions: The meeting will be kept on every second Wednesday each month, but will start already at 1 pm.
