The ESS accelerator project The European spallation source is under construction in Lund and first protons to target is planned for June 2019 at 1.5 MW. The full 5 MW capacity should be available for 2023 when the full user program is expected to start. I will in my talk give a brief introduction to the full ESS project, give some examples of the science which will be done at ESS and present the status and progress of the accelerator project in some detail. The project is a highly contributed project with some 26 IK partners for the accelerator project alone. I will discuss the IK contributions to the accelerator and describe the work done to assure the smooth project execution with that many IK partners.
