Description
Often we find ourselves challenged in life and work situations such as job interviews, scientific presentations, group discussions, and even conference dinners. How can we be our authentic selves and give the best impression? What if we are tongue-tied because of our fear of saying the wrong thing? What if there was no wrong thing?
Theatre improv pioneer Keith Johnstone created games and techniques to prepare actors to be more spontaneous and in-the-moment and to be less afraid of their audience. This course will use adapted improv theatre games and role plays for academic scientists’ needs. Workshop goals:
Day one will focus on using improv to benefit presentation skills; day two on practicing interview skills. The workshop benefits are listed above and goals include improving spontaneous speaking, answering difficult questions, as well as building trust in our inherent abilities. Note: The course is practical in which each of us is not a witness but a participant so be prepared to move around, practice new games, and challenge shyness and fears. Please wear comfortable clothing and be ready for some fun. Teacher bio:
