Description
The XFEL has opened new opportunities for imaging molecular dynamics, as „the fastest camera in the world“, with 10 fs „shutter speed“. I‘ll review the compact XFEL under construction at ASU (replacing SASE amplified noise with a single mode, by patterning the electron beam) and the use of a crystal as a wiggler. I‘ll compare scattering mechanisms and times for X-ray and electron pulses for out-running radiation damage, and describe future plans for making movies of protein dynamics at XFELs within the NSF‘s BioXFEL consortium of universities in USA.
