Description
A geochemical determination of the Solar (pp) neutrino flux was proposed in 1970s [1]. The neutrino capture reaction 205Tl+ve→205Pb+e- has the low energy threshold of 52 keV. By measuring the amount of 205Pb in naturally occurring lorandite (TlAsS2) minerals, the LOREX (LORandite EXperiment) project [2] will provide the integral neutrino flux over the last 4.31(2) My, the age of lorandite [3]. The challenges are: (i) to determine the probability of neutrino capture on 205Tl; (ii) to mine a sufficient amount of lorandite and estimate background contributions; (iii) to chemically extract Pb; and (iv) finally to obtain the ratio of 205Pb/205Tl. Significant progress has been achieved for all four challenges. In this contribution we will report the status of the LOREX project and outline the future steps.
