Summary of meeting and follow-up discussions

b/c combination paper

- Plots to be approved as preliminary were presented.  These are in addition to those released last year.

-> They will be presented for a second time for final approval on 15/Feb.

-> The updated paper draft will also be presented on 15/Feb.  There is still the possibility of the paper being ready for Moriond and/or DIS2018, but if not the preliminary plots will be presented.

Contact interactions

- Oleksii presented status from ZEUS and people working on this.

- Stefan presented status from H1 on a cross-check/complementary analysis.

- H1 cannot do the same method as ZEUS due to complexity and time required to do it which is computing intensive.

- H1 can do a cross check analysis based on a different method and check implementation of models.

- Discussion:

-> Not clear whether the different methods will give complementary results or just be completely different.

-> Filip and Stefan to discuss whether the analyses are / can be made complementary.

-> Look at a few channels to check consistency, e.g. quark radius.

-> The possibility of having two papers, an H1 paper and a ZEUS paper, was discussed and could still happen, although try for a joint paper.

-> Aim to have both methods in a common paper.  Both are described and both produce limits.

-> To sit together to list models implemented.

-> Analyses work in parallel, both the teams and approach.

-> H1 concentrate on newer models not yet considered by ZEUS, e.g. extra dimensions.

-> H1 to come up with an analysis team; who else will work on this ?  Stefan is looking for someone else.

-> Timeline is to release results for summer.  Probably preliminary, with paper to follow soon after.

-> Need presentation and discussion at next H1+ZEUS meeting, 4/Apr.

W mass

- Achim had a major comment about using a non-ZM-VFNS PDF, i.e. something which is not a zero-mass fit.

- Daniel would like to have this as a common paper even though he could in principle publish on his own.

- Politically and for the aesthetic reasons it would be good to have a HERA m_W measurement.

-> Aim to proceed with a short combined H1+ZEUS letter on m_W.

HERAPDF update with NNLO jets

- Needed new grids are produced.

-> Daniel needs to check them and then they can be passed on.

- Daniel reported that the NNLO grids are effectively publicly released and official.  The NNLO jets team seem generally happy for this to be the case.  We assume that the grids will not change, although some tests are still ongoing.

-> Stefan and Matthew to send official request from H1+ZEUS to NNLO jets team asking if the grids can be “released” and so used by us in public results.  [Also, we don’t want to have to keep updating the analysis with new grids.]

-> Ask NNLO jets team if they want to be co-authors, also considering the significant input of producing grids.

- A CMS student has done an update to xFitter to use NNLO grids.

-> Daniel can check out the xFitter release; once done will inform Katarzyna.

-> Ask Sasha for an official release of xFitter with NNLO grids to version can be cited in paper.

- Need to understand focus of this paper.

-> General feeling is that it should be jets and alpha_s (in partciular NNLO).

-> Iris had some thoughts on this.  Will share with H1 and present at next meeting.
