Workshop - Matthew

See https://indico.desy.de/indico/event/19493/overview

where there is significant progress on the programme and so the workshop can be announced.

Beate will write an official announcement e-mail on workshop.  We should circulate as widely as possible.

Should we prepare input to European strategy ?  This can come out of document summarising the workshop and physics case we want to prepare.  Seems like a good idea.

Theory - Tony

See slide for brief update

Issues - Beate

Beate went through the list of questions and issues which we have docuemnted on the confluence web-site.  See slides for details.  The points below refer to those raised for each section.

Laser

1.  Needs more progress: scan/table of possible options.

E.g. Intensity, uncertainty, power, xsec area, length, freq., footprint, cost, …

2.  Need a picture/drawing of the experiment so can explain better.

Need more investigation of where a laser beam line could be.

3.  Put in table (1.) with uncertainty value and method.

4.  To meet Andi Maier soon.

5.  Large pipes for HiBEF make it looks difficult.  Still needs looking at.

Accelerator

1.  Do not know whether we need extra focusing.

2.  Need more precise values for space.

3.  Florian will study.

4.  Interactions with detectors means shielding and Florian can simulate in FLUKA for a given rate of electrons in the detectors.  New question needed on shielding.

5.  Also use a shutter so can remove laser beam line from crane path (see laser 2.)

Detector

1.  Nothing extra

2.  Nothing extra

3. User experiments will not happen by 2021, so an early LUXE will be advantageous as the question of interference will not come up.

Not obvious we fit into “call for proposals” as not “user”.

    - Move to "Other aspects" section.

Physics aspects

1.  Need more details.

2.  Updates by end of April.

3.  -

4.  Andreas will look to see if it has been observed before.

5.  This is being considered.   The workshop will also be important.

Other aspects

- German-Israeli funding for cooperative projects to be considered.

- Buildings, etc. not funded by e.g. DFG.  What about Helmholtz ?

- ERC grants: need to optimise strategy.  Beate to discuss with EU officer at DESY.
