Description
Plasma instabilities can arise inside a laser irradiated target, depending on a range of certain parameters involving the light source and the target configuration itself. In particular, both laser intensity and preplasma have proven to have a significant influence on the creation of well localized, high magnitude magnetic fields, which can be detrimental for applications such as the proper generation of proton beams in regard to oncotherapy.
In order to investigate this phenomenon at near-realistic conditions, a study including both of these quantities is carried via computational tools, in particular using a particle-in-cell code to analyze the interaction of Gaussian laser pulses with a simulated cryogenic Hydrogen target.
