Description

Improving the laser-driven acceleration of protons has been identified as a priority in POF. One of the milestones is the acceleration of protons above the energy mark of 100 MeV, which is still state of the art research at laser facilities worldwide. In a recent series of experiments, protons with an energy above 90 MeV have been accelerated at the PHELIX facility at the Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt. The poster will review the performance of PHELIX as a proton driver and address the current limits and bottlenecks that prevent obtaining higher energies.
