Minutes of H1+ZEUS meeting, 5 September 2018
The main topic of discussion was the status of analyses on contact interactions in the HERA data and how to proceed with the work. Before this, the other analyses of common interest were discussed.
HERAPD3.X
- Nothing new to present.
- More work needed on producing grids.
W mass fit
- Nothing new.
Parity violation in gravity
- Position from HERA collaborations is clear: the procedure for this paper was wrong; there is a lot of scepticism about the results.
- Need DESY management to discuss and act.
Contact interactions
For details of the ZEUS analysis and H1 analysis, see the attached slides from Oleksii and Stefan.
Oleksii presented and the following technical/scientific issues were raised.
- We have a different PDF for every CI model and it was asked whether these would be released ?
-> Would not release these PDFs.
- How different are CI-fitted PDFs compared to standard PDFs ?
-> Comparison shown at Q^2 = 10 GeV^2, but do not have comparison to hand for higher scales.
- Improvement compared to previous HERA analyses ?
-> Again do not have to hand but can look up.
- If you change the PDF parametrisation, does it weaken the limits ?
-> Not considered.
- Effect of polarisation ?
-> Polarisation data is not considered in 1D fits, it is just the HERA combined unpolarised data.
Stefan presented and the following technical/scientific issues were raised.
- ZMVFNS is not a HFL scheme.
-> Fine, this was the default in the code and Stefan has anyway looked at more applicable schemes.
- What higher order EW corrections are done ?
-> These are not full NLO corrections, but the major considerations. Would need to ask Spiesberger for details.
- Considered that polarisation data may be useful.
-> May be advisable to first do study before looking at polarisation data. To form part of the plan for detailed further studies.
The approach to publishing was then discussed.
Iris stated that:
- The ZEUS analysis on the 1D fits is essentially ready to start the ZEUS paper procedure and we expect to be able to publish this as a ZEUS paper at the end of the year or early next year.
- ZEUS will probably have personpower for 2D and more detailed fits, but it needs to be confirmed. H1 needs to assess this too.
Stefan:
- Agreed that H1 had not really contributed to the 1D fits and ZEUS could proceed with their own paper on this.
- Said that a paper on multi-dimensional fits and more detailed studies of the theory and which data could be used should be a common effort from the start.
It was therefore agreed that:
- ZEUS would proceed with a paper on its own presenting the 1D fits, essentially as already shown as preliminary.
- A combined H1+ZEUS effort would work on multi-dimensional fits and more detailed studies of the theory and which data could be used. Defining the scope of this paper should start now. Further personpower is also encouraged.
