ABSTRACT: The Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) is a powerful tool for investigating new physics beyond the Standard Model. I will give a general introduction to this formalism and I will motivate a global analysis of the SMEFT parameters, discussing how the latter can be implemented in practice, while minimizing the theoretical assumptions on the UV sector.
