Description
In the Laser Physics group of KTH, Stockholm, periodically poled ferroelectric crystals are used to build nonlinear optical devices. In particular, engineered Rb-doped KTiOPO4 (RKTP) was recently used for two main research applications. For instance, we investigated numerically and experimentally self-compressed fs supercontinuum pulses in the mid-IR through cascaded second-order nonlinearities in periodically poled RKTP. Another line of research is dedicated to counter-propagating devices called mirrorless optical parametric oscillators (MOPOs), which can be realized in sub-µm periodically poled RKTP. I will describe how these devices work and give a few examples of what MOPOs can be used for.
