Description
Beamline P09 at PETRA III at DESY is offering the possibility to investigate the electronic and magnetic properties of diverse materials by means of X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) in the tender and hard X-ray range. After the successful installation of a state-of-the-art double phase retarder allowing for full polarization control and fast circular polarization switching in 2016, beamline P09 provides circular incident photons in a X-ray energy window between 2.7 and 13.7 keV covering most of the 3d transition metal K-, and 4d/5d and rare earths L2,3-absorption edges. Proof-of-principle XMCD measurements were performed with an 0.8 T electromagnet at temperatures down to 5 K on powder samples in transmission. XMCD from thin films has been as well implemented in fluorescence yield in combination with X-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity (XRMR) at low temperatures and in magnetic fields till about 200 mT. In order to expand the experimental possibilities at PETRA III at P09, a workshop dedicated to the XMCD community is being organized. Interested users and groups are welcome to express their interests, present their scientific projects and discuss their needs as respect to sample environment, detectors and beam properties.
