# Comments on paper draft PRF-18-001 (J. Knolle)

**Type B & physics questions:**

- l. 8: Can't we cite a more recent paper here, like TOP-17-008?
- l. 87ff.: Shouldn't the jet-energy resolution be the result of the paper, rather than given at the very beginning? 
- l. 223ff.: What is the process of a sample containing a "single neutrino"?
- Eq. (2): How is the method of the first moment different from the first step of the iterative method?
- Fig. 11: Shouldn't the caption mention the fit that is shown here?
- l. 525f.: Why are there "large statistical uncertainties ... near i#phi=1 and i#phi=37"?
- Fig. 14: Are these fit functions on the plot? Shouldn't that be mentioned in either caption or legend?
- Ref. [33]: use the latest version of the PDG

**Type A:**

- l. 3: Do we have to define/motivate "jets" at its first use?
- l. 34: "relatively large size ... relative to": drop the first "relatively"
- l. 44: "A correction for nonlinearity for ... hadrons" -> "A nonlinearity correction for ... hadrons"
- l. 46: "GEANT4 [16]-based simulation" -> "GEANT4-based simulation [16]"
- l. 102: "A wedge is contains" -> "A wedge contains"
- Fig. 1: Either in the figure or the caption, it should be made clear that this is only half of the HCAL systems.
- l. 158f.: "which selections only" -> "which selects only"
- l. 241/244: Move "This method is described in more detail in Section 5.X." to the end of the respective paragraph.
- Fig. 2: Can the "HF, i#phi..." label be adjusted such that it doesn't intersect the threshold lines?
- l. 258ff.: "well above ... few hundred MeV" needs to be "10GeV for the HF"? Isn't that already "much above"?
- eqs. (3), (5), (7): The superscript "noise" is lower than the superscript "signal".
- l. 319: "HF(right)" -> "HF (right)"
- l. 331: Missing dot at end of sentence.
- l. 536: Does "#delta R" need to be defined?
- Fig. 13 (both plots): Shouldn't the label "Signal: (-4, 4)" be rather of the form "HO, i#eta=-4, i#phi=4" as in e.g. Fig. 2?
- l. 565ff.: Choose a style for the selection similar to previous event selections (e.g. l. 532ff.), i.e. without "should"
- l. 590: "GEANT 4 based" -> "GEANT4-based" as in l. 46
