Precision physics with jet cross sections

In this theory colloquium presentation, I shall focus on the importance of jet cross sections for precision physics at hadron colliders. In the first part of the talk, I will review the essential ingredients entering the computation of jet observables including NNLO perturbative QCD corrections and give the current state-of the art for 2 —> 2 processes at hadron colliders. In the second part, I shall present a selection of recent phenomenological applications computed with the parton-level event generator NNLOJET.
