Operator Training

Final meeting 2020

by Matthias Scholz (MXL (XFEL))

Europe/Berlin
Description

Despite Corona, 2020 was a very successful year for the operation of EuXFEL. Thank you very much for your contribution!

I would like to invite you to a last operator training for this year on Tuesday 15. December at 9:30 am.

Of course this has to be an online meeting via Zoom.
You can participate by clicking on the following link

It will not be a training in the usual sense, but I wanted to discuss the last year of operation with you, give you an outlook on the coming year and share your tips and suggestions for operation in common.

Meeting topics:

Successful operation in 2020!

  • In spite of corona, 2020 was a successful year with very good operation performance! Thanks for your commitment!
  • D3 has noted with approval that there was less activation of beamline components than expected!

Restart in January 2021

  • logbook link to the schedule.
  • It might be that the corona shut down over Christmas and new year eventually delays the restart in 2021.  But there are no shifts canceled up to now.
  • Shutdown work at XFEL will continue until December 22, 2020 as scheduled.

New stuff at/after restart?

  • There will be new fast kickers for orbit correction within a bunch train to correct the trajectory change due to eddy currents caused by the dump kickers. -> more stable SASE over pulse trains.
  • HXSS (Hard X-ray Self Seeding) will be used during next user run. There will be help by the system experts at the beginning.
  • The experiment hutches will not change every 12 hours but every week. This will give us more stable operation conditions and it will most likely lead to a more efficient use of the beam times.

XFEL Operations Confluence page

  • Blog -> please watch the blog page!
  • Procedures -> not yet complete but we are working on it! Using existing procedures is mandatory.
  • Link to operator trainings. -> More operator trainings again in 2021. Also new topics. Any suggestions from your side?
  • Short video tutorials?
