Minutes of NAF User Committee meeting from 12.5.2010 ---------------------------------------------------- Present: Steve Aplin (ILC), Wolfgang Ehrenfeld (ATLAS), Andreas Gellrich (NAF), Andreas Haupt (IT), Kai Leffhalm (NAF), Angela Lucaci-Timoce (ILC), Harmut Stadie (CMS) Excused: 1. News from the chair: The candidate list for the new chair/co-chair is Wolfgang Ehrenfeld and Hartmut Stadie. All participating members voted for the suggested one option choice: Hartmut Stadie as chair and Wolfgang Ehrenfeld as co-chair. The NUC thanked Wolfgang for all his effort over the last two year and wishes Harmut good luck for the next two. 2. Status report: Status report was given by Kai. See the agenda for the report. Below a few highlights from the discussion are listed: - AFS scratch New hardware is finally order and should arrive within a few weeks time. - SGE priorities Changing priorities within am experiment for the SGE batch system is now possible via dedicated unix groups. Groups are administrated by the experiments, priority is administrated by the NAF admins. Currently, SGE does not allow for hierarchical administration. - scratch deletion tool Deleting files using mtime is not an option for the experiments. Wolfgang will arrange for a discussion with the experts to make progress on this issue. - SL5.5: tcx01f has been set up for SL5.5 beta. Please test as soon as possible and give feedback. The NAF will announce this to the NUC mailing list. - Lustre client stability Lustre 1.8.3 is out and currently under testing on a few systems. 3. Action items: Some updates to the action items where presented in the status report. Corresponding action items were closed. 4. Feedback from the experiments: The experiments presented their support request from last month. See the agenda for more details. - One of the ATLAS Lustre instances was full. The NAF should check how this is monitored and when experiments are noticed. - ILC would like to increase they Lustre space. The NAF should present the technical constraints next meeting. Hartmut and Wolfgang will talk to Volker Guelzow about the resource constraints. 5. Current practise for announcements: Nobody object to go for the combination of TWitter, experiment user mailing lists and naf-announce mailing list. The current practise and improvements from the NAF side was already presented in the status report. The NAF admins will announce TWitter to the users and describe its use. 6. AOB: It seems that September is a good month for the face to face meeting. Wolfgang will try to organise a good date.
