PIER is pleased to announce its next PIER Startup Workshop “Business Plan” for early stage researchers (PhD students and Postdocs), taking place remotely (via Zoom) on 5 November 2021.

In this workshop, PhD students and postdocs get an overview of the business plan and learn how they can transfer their own business ideas, Business Model Canvas or research results into this more classical framework.

The business plan is an important instrument in order to test and review business models, make and adhere to strategic decisions and to share one’s own business idea with potential investors. Writing a business plan represents a special challenge that includes rules, which entrepreneurs and business professionals need to become familiar with and follow. The workshop participants learn what is important to keep in mind when developing a business plan and review typical pitfalls. Besides covering topics such as marketing, market research, legal structures and team development, the participants examine various go-to-market strategies in detail.

By using different examples, the participants are equipped with the basics of strategic business planning in order to understand the business plan as an instrument they can eventually put to use.

The workshop offers a mix of theoretical input as well as creative and practical group exercises, which encourage the participants to think and act like entrepreneurs when drafting their business plans. In order to create an interactive learning environment, each participant can ask individual questions and share their personal experiences and opinions within the group.

Learning outcomes:

  • Becoming familiar with the business plan
  • Creating awareness for entrepreneurial thinking and acting
  • Understanding legal entities and frameworks
  • Exploring the option of turning research results into actual business ventures
  • Developing different types of business plans

The workshop will be moderated by Andreas Voss (Concis Group!).
