Analysis Centre seminar: Henrik Nilsen "DZero Analysis Walkthrough for Experimentalists and Theorists"
→
Europe/Berlin
Description
Abstract:
In this talk I will give an overview of various analysis techniques
used in the D0 experiment for correcting (unfolding) differential
distributions reconstructed in data for the impact of the
detector. Performing such corrections is of great importance since it
allows for direct comparisons to be performed between experimental
data and theory/model predictions. Which correction technique to use
depends on the physics process and observable to be measured, as
illustrated using various QCD and electroweak measurements published
by the D0 experiment. The various techniques rely on either a Ansatz
approach, a parameterized detector description, or a GEANT-based
detector simulation and use either a so-called bin-by-bin
method or a regularized unfolding method to account for the impact of
the detector resolution.
