Description
The presently constructed small angle X-ray scattering instrumentation at PETRA III will concentrate on the use of extremely small primary beams in the micro- and nanometer range. Techniques demanding for larger beams are still exploited at DORIS III and thus will be no longer available after the scheduled shutdown of the DORIS machine in 2012. Therefore, it is planned to move these techniques to PETRA III in the frame of a PETRA III extension project. The various SAXS techniques will be realized at a new beamline which will feature SAXS at low and high resolution, in transmission and grazing incidence geometry, and with the option to utilize anomalous scattering. The intention of this workshop is to discuss the various aspects of the layout of the new instrument with our potential users. This discussion shall cover appropriate beamline optics, space requirements, demands concerning sample environments, and means to provide the various experimental options in an efficient way. Finding the optimum layout requires concerted input from the future users of the instrument with specific expertise in the different areas of small angle X-ray scattering.
