DESY Hamburg
The Monte Carlo School at DESY in Hamburg aims mainly at PhD students and post-docs who want to learn about the basics of Monte Carlo generators. The 2011 MC School focuses on QCD at LHC. Lectures and hands-on tutorials are given on an introductory level on "MC methods", "MC generators", "Parton Showers", "Hadronization", "Jet Physics", "The Underlying Event" and "QCD at LHC". The poster for the MC School can be found here: http://www.terascale.de/schools_and_workshops/monte_carlo_school_2011/ Additional day for CMS and ATLAS participants: After the MC School, in the afternoon of Thursday, 17 March, and in the morning of Friday 18 of March, an additional tutorial on how to use different Monte Carlo generators within the experiments framework is given. The tutorial will use the NAF (National Analysis Facility). A NAF account is mandatory. See http://naf.desy.de/ for details how to get an account. Non German participants of the MC school are eligible to a NAF account for the duration of the school. Please indicate in the registration, if you want to participate. The tutorial is optional, but included in the cost of the MC School. For questions regarding this extra ATLAS and CMS specific tutorial, please contact Wolfgang Ehrenfeld (ATLAS), wolfgang.ehrenfeld@desy.de, or Isabell Melzer-Pellmann (CMS), isabell.melzer@desy.de.
