The DESY summer student programme 2022 will take place from July 19 to September 8.

Each summer DESY offers undergraduate students in physics or related natural science disciplines the possibility to participate in the research activities of the laboratory at the Hamburg or Zeuthen (near Berlin) sites. The 2022 program has been adapted to the special conditions due to the Covid pandemic and consists of two main parts:
1. Work projects: Selected candidates join in the day-to-day work of DESY research groups. We plan to have

  • a majority of work projects on-site,
  • as well as a number of online (remote) work projects.

For the on-site projects everything must of course be conform with the Covid-19 pandemic requirements and restrictions for traveling to (following the guidelines for external users) and working at DESY. Thus we will require that on-site students have a EU-conform vaccination. Students that are invited for on-site projects are expected to work 39 hours a week and will be paid by the divisions/working groups.

Online work projects generally require internet connections with sufficient bandwidth, for which each participating student has to take care of him/herself. The online project work is unpaid.

2. Lecture program: While the work in the groups is the main activity, there will also be a series of lectures (given in English) related to the scientific research done at DESY. The majority of the lectures will be in the first weeks of the program.

Application for the students will open in February.
