Postdocs are often faced with the specific challenge of positioning themselves in a historically grown academic field. Power constellations play just as much a role here as the question of how to move sovereignly “on the academic stage“. This coaching program is explicitly not only a preparation for job applications or negotiations, but rather a strategic and professional orientation with a view to higher- level goals. Negotiation preparations that fall within the duration of the program can be brought in as case studies. Against this background, the coaching program is aimed at female scientists who want to consciously deal with their on (supra-) professional and political positioning. We also address those who would like to learn and practice negotiation techniques - always keeping an eye on individual needs and deadlines.
1 Workshop (Kick-off 3h) - 22.04.2022
Negotiating and positioning oneself within the political contexts of university
Input, exercises and reflection on the following questions:
1. What ist the ACTUAL role and what is my TARGET role?
2. Golden Circle: What do I need to get into the TARGET role (contacts,
networks, etc.)?
3. WHY – What is the core of my work?
4. HOW – How do I communicate the core of my work to the outside world?
5. WHAT – What can I do concretely to position myself as a professor?
GOAL: Create a framework for self-learning phases and identify individual needs. Based on the needs of the participants, we design 4 modules on our online campus.
Every 2 weeks: Link incl. password with input, materials, exercises and videos on our online campus with 2h of effort/every 14 days, 4 office hours á 30 minutes and e- mail support).
1. GOLDEN CIRCLE – shaping career development consciously and
authentically with Simon Sinek’s concept.
Goal: Make yourself aware of your own network, existing contacts and
opportunities
2. WHY – Why do I do what I do?
Identify the core of one’s own work and define unique selling points
Goals: Determine one’s own value through multi-perspective reflection
on one’s own values (What should others say about me and my (work
related) content?)
3. HOW – How do I carry my WHY into the world?
Use individual unique selling propositions in negotiations, communicate -
even with uncertainties or fears
Goals: Knowing and practicing negotiation and communication
techniques and dealing with uncertainties
4. WHAT – What do I do concretely?
Project proposals, publications, committee work and co. Presenting and
lecturing in the spirit of your own WHY
Goal: Know and practice lecture and presentation techniques
