Photon mass as a portal to new physics

Description

The in-medium modified dispersion relation of photons enables processes that are forbidden in vacuum and that can be exploited to probe new physics. In this talk I will highlight three such examples: first, we consider electromagnetic form factor interactions of new dark states and show how plasmon decays constrains their existence from stellar cooling arguments. Second, we consider the dark photon conversion into photons in the context of 21cm cosmology and, third, shall we consider photon to axion conversion in the magnetospheres of neutron stars and explore the sensitivity reach in the axion-photon coupling.
