Colonial Palaeontological Practices/'Firsting' in Research

Europe/Berlin
Description

In this meeting we want to discuss traces of colonialism in modern academia, exemplarily with the following article about palaeontological practices in Mexico and Brasil (see materials) and the following essay on ‚firsting‘ in science, which is the tendency to put, possibly unjustified, emphasis on being the first to discover or do something (see materials).
We will discuss these two papers together, so please have a look at them to the extend your time allows. If you have other interesting papers or articles related to the topic, please bring them. Everyone who is interested is invited.
