Symmetries and renormalization group in (perturbative) algebraic quantum field theory

In this talk I will give an overview of (perturbative) algebraic quantum field theory and explain how it can be applied to describe interaction. I will then report on new progress in the description of renormalization group and symmetries, using nets of C*-algebras. That part is based on a recent paper with Brunetti, Duetsch and Fredenhagen.
