To be successful in science, scientists have to attract funding for their project ideas or their own position. Which funding programs are of interest to me? How do I find efficiently funding programs tailor made for my needs? What are the principles of successful proposals? The design of the seminar is such, that we will discuss the principles of the funding system and of application and evaluation procedures. You’ll gain insight into the structure and systematics of the funding landscape in Germany. To enable you to find tailor made funding possibilities for your individual needs you’ll get strategic tips for the search for funding. You’ll get practical tips to write a convincing proposal by concept and content. Focus of the proposal analysis will be a strong title, a convincing summary and strategic considerations to develop a project plan with an adequate budget. You also get to know unwritten rules you should keep in mind, when applying for extramural funds.


In the second part you get 45 minutes of individual counseling, that you can use for analysis of a submitted, a successful or an unsuccessful proposal, to clarify questions for the strategic use of funding also for career development. Optional, you also can bring the summary of a proposal you are currently writing for analysis and further development.

Dr. Wilma Simoleit/Förderungsberatung Dr. Wilma Simoleit, Bonn
Consultant for Research Funding and Career Development in Science. In her professional experience Dr. Simoleit combines different perspectives of the research and the extramural funding system. As a scientist she worked for several years in Germany and the USA. She published numerous scientific publications and attracted successfully extramural funds.
From research she changed to research management and research funding. She gained longtime experience in the support of national and international research at the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Deutsche Krebshilfe.


Dr. Simoleit consults universities, research institutions, funding organizations, experienced and young scientists. She lectures at national and international universities and research institutions about the topics research funding and career development in science. Dr. Simoleit initiated conferences on the topics „Forschungsmanagement: Drittmittel einwerben und verwalten“ and „Forschungsförderung: Gratwanderung zwischen Bürokratie und Ideenschmiede?“. She is editor of several publications on the topics research funding, research management and technology transfer.
