SU(2) gauge theory with $N_f=24$ massless fermions has a trivial infrared fixed point and is therefore non-interacting at long distances. If the fermions are massive, the behavior changes dramatically as the fermions will now decouple at energy scales below the fermion mass and the infrared behavior becomes that of confining SU(2) pure gauge theory. In this talk I will discuss our recent efforts to demonstrate the latter behavior non-perturbatively with lattice Monte Carlo simulations and the gradient flow running coupling.
