Description

I will discuss two directions in which new approaches in machine learning promise to change the scope of lattice QCD calculations of nuclear physics. First, I will describe a class of approaches to sampling gauge fields based on generalisations of machine-learned trivialising maps which may provide a path forward to mitigate critical slowing-down. Second, I will discuss how effective field theory in a finite volume can be matched to lattice QCD calculations of energies and matrix elements of light nuclei and used to study larger nuclei in infinite volumes, and outline how the reach of this approach has been extended with machine learning tools.
