We say (or presuppose) that one event caused another all the time. Yet the nature of causation has been a matter of philosophical controversy for centuries. In the talk, I introduce two main approaches to causation: the view that causation is difference-making and the view that causation is the transfer of a conserved quantity. I discuss how these approaches fare vis-à-vis certain tricky cases, including cases of quantum entanglement.
