Creative solutions needed // Fighting global issues
This exclusive workshop aimed at the DESY particle physics division is a cooperation between the DESY Start-up Office and the CERN spin-off gluoNNet (http://gluonnet.com/). gluoNNet is analyzing the world’s largest data sets to explore new and exciting frontiers in particle physics. The founders of gluoNNet are experienced particle physicists who worked at CERN, where they established THE Port Humanitarian Hackathons to work on humanitarian technology-related benefits to society.
During this exclusive event, Dr. Karolos Potamianos will introduce a challenge focusing on a global issue that concerns us here at DESY. Karolos is currently an Ernest Rutherford Fellow at the University of Oxford and working on the ATLAS experiment at CERN. He is an expert in large-scale data analysis, silicon pixel detectors, data acquisition, and pattern recognition and will share with you his journey of founding a start-up.
Note: PowerPoint is banned! While working on this problem, we will have to come up with unusual, creative techniques. For prototypes, LEGO, Playmobil, and plasticine will be available. But you cannot use any kind of presentation slides. It will be fun! We are thrilled to see the most creative solution!
Sign up for a trip into your own creativity!
Look forward to:
08:45: Coffee Time
09:00: Talk by an external speaker from gluoNNet
09:45: Working on a challenge
12:00: Prototype presentation
13:00: Lunch & Networking
