Description

In addition to being an outstanding beamline for macromolecular crystallography P14 is now also being used for biological X-ray imaging. By taking advantage of the high developed infrastructure that has been established for structural biology over the past decades we are able to image biological samples in a high throughput manner to a resolution of better than 1micron with the reconstructed 3D data being available to view less than 10 minutes after the start of data acquisition. The use of the automated sample changer means that it is possible to scan many samples in the course of a day. We have termed this novel application High Throughput Tomography or HiTT.

In my talk I will briefly describe the technique of HiTT and then focus on the wide variety of applications and opportunities it opens up for biologists.
