Description

The imaging beamline P05 is optimized for full-field imaging in the hard X-ray regime and
consists of two experimental stations: A micro- and a nanotomography setup. The
microtomography instrument covers an energy range of 8 - 45 keV and imaging modalities
from absorption to in-line phase contrast are offered. Thanks to the high-end detector systems,
large field of views are achieved at high spatial resolutions. In addition, a range of in-house
sample environments are available to users (e.g. oven, corrosion cell, load frame).
The nanotomography station offers transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM) as well as nearfield
holotomography (NFHT) covering absorption and phase contrast methods in an energy
range from 8 to 17 keV. In the TXM, a spatial resolution down to 40 nm is achieved. At the
same time, the TXM setup allows for scan times of below one minute in the fast scan mode,
ideally suited for in situ studies. The NFHT setup on the other hand offers low dose,
quantitative phase contrast and a flexible magnification with even more extended space for in
situ environments. In particular, the recently commissioned environmental controlled sample
chamber in combination with the nanoindentation device allows tomographic imaging and
recording of the mechanical performance of biological specimen at a relative humidity from 0
up to 95 %.

Thus, P05 is serving as an ideal probe for a wide range of length scales and applications,
ranging from engineering over medicine to biology. An overview of the available experimental
techniques at our instruments and newest developments will be presented alongside with some
recent scientific examples.
