MEDSI Early Career Engineering School 2024
DESY Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron and European XFEL
Hamburg, Germany
Monday, 13th May to Friday, 17th May 2024
This school for young engineers and early career specialists is a training course for the mechanical design of synchrotron instrumentation. It will focus on the fundamentals that are important to learn about the special challenges of the technologies used in the facilities and instruments of X-ray science.
MEDSI School at European XFEL and DESY will address many of the technical issues that arise in the design, construction, and operation of technical systems of this type and is intended to provide the young specialists with the basics necessary to meet the increasing challenges of the future instruments.
Objectives of the school:
- Learn about major components in XFEL and synchrotron sources
- Introduction to important design parameters and engineering tools in development and design processes
- Gain a basic knowledge in x-ray optics and diagnostics
- Methods for determining and evaluating system requirements
- Presentation of new concepts and technologies for use in beamlines and experiments
- Providing special knowledge for the design of major beamline components by using examples
- Illustration of the benefits of system engineering and the challenges in improving the stability of systems
Attendance requirements:
A maximum of two to three years of professional experience in synchrotron instrument design and development. Interest in mechanical design and modern engineering.
The school will primarily address young engineers working at research laboratories, applications from industrial companies will be considered only in the case of vacancies.
