Jupyter notebooks are the state of the art in interactive data analysis environments. University of Münster provides a JupyterHub service to PUNCH members with an assortment of preinstalled scientific software packages available through the notebook interface.
In this preparatory session we will show you how to access the service, which will be used for the training sessions throughout the rest of the day. We will quickly go over the available software and demonstrate some useful techniques and workflows.
The Python HistFactory Pyhf is a tool to build Parametrized Probability Density functions (PDFs) in the RooFit/RooStats framework. It is widely used by HEP communities. however, it is sufficiently flexible to describe many analyses based on template histograms. The tool supports also computation graph libraries such as PyTorch and TensorFlow in order to make use of features such as auto-differentiation and GPU acceleration. More information can be found via the link: Pyhf documentation.
BAT.jl is a high performance Bayesian Ananlysis Toolkit implemented in Julia, a general-purpose programming language. Applications are parameter inference given a model, the comparison of different models in the light of a given data set and the test of the validity of a model. More information are available at: BAT.jl documentation.
SciTraceWeb is a tool which has been developed at AIP Potsdam for tracing digital research products (i.e. scientific analyses that start from some data, apply an algorithm and collect results leading to a scientific publication), ensuring re-usability and reproducibility through the traceability of the workflow. An overview presentation of the tool and a live demonstration of the software will be offered during this training. This part will not require any prior knowledge.
More information and material will be uploaded to the training gitlab repository, accessible through the link: PYA-training-material-GitLab on PUNCH GitLab, which (as PUNCH member) you should be able to access (if you plan to attend and cannot access that repository, please contact the organizers).
If you plan to register please be aware that you should take few minutes to be sure to fulfill the following prerequisites.
