Florian B for P08 presented his experience with scicat and feature wish list for usage:
1. Instable behaviour, errors (display of datasets)
2. DAQ@P08-> stepwise motions are recorded, every scan is a dataset (ds)
3. Need grouping/flagging/tagging of scicat entries, e.g. alignment ideally before runstart, modifiable afterwards + changelog
4. Show mean values/parameters for quick identification of ds
5. Preview of data (graph/plot or data points plus plot engine?) especially after the data has been moved to taped
6. Display of custom fields on scicat frontage, sort according to customised columns, select using e.g. scans
7. Status of dataset (where is it located?) -> transfer request from within scicat
8. Confusion of beam time and proposal ID -> overlap with DOOR info?
Need better handling of logging into scicat (for now a lot of MANUAL interaction is required for users who do heavy computing on Maxwell farm).
Discussion after the talk:
- Annotation of processed data - smthg to think about
- Filtering according to beam time id or proposal id does not even work
- Concerning tagging Paul M sent a link to previous efforts of standardised keywords (

- Do we need something like BLISS at DESY? Such that one can start measurements indicating this is an alignment measurement.
- Concerning downloading data: Martin G pointed to the problem that there is always a structure difference in what is at storage level and what is in the metadata catalogue -> Need to check with Gamma-Portal people how it is done to see how one can do it in scicat.
- Phases of data quality - to be considered for the future?
- flexible, customised columns are strongly favoured by users.
Conclusion:
Most disturbing features will hopefully be solved with the new backend.
Customised fields will be a feature of new main release of scicat (Linus reported).
next for P08 : grouping of datasets to reduce the amount of entries and have average values.
