Abstract:
Superconductors host various types of localized states inside the superconducting gap. Though known in part since the 1960s, they have recently been attracting widespread scientific attention – as well as investment, drama, and controversy. This talk will discuss the ideas behind realizing Majorana fermions in topological superconductors, the nonabelian quantum statistics of Majorana bound states, their use in topological quantum computation, proposed experimental platforms, and the current status of experimental work.
