COFUND proposal:  ALLIANCE - “hAnseatic schooL of natural, engIneering ANd mediCal sciEnces”
LU, DESY and UHH play a key role in training the next generation of scientists and users of state-of-the-art large-scale research infrastructures such as the MAX IV laboratory and the future European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, the synchrotron PETRA III with its future upgrade to PETRA IV and the free-electron laser FLASH at DESY, and the X-ray free-electron laser European XFEL in Hamburg.

These infrastructures open up unprecedented research opportunities to explore and manipulate matter at its most fundamental level, and to seek answers to outstanding questions in basic and applied science. However, scientists in the natural, engineering and medical sciences are confronted with increasing levels of automation and the increasing number and resolution of sensors in scientific experiments, resulting in large, heterogeneous and highly complex data collections.

The goal of the ALLIANCE is to bring together the expertise from our different areas on both campuses in imaging technology and data processing to tackle specific scientific challenges with a machine learning approach and to prepare the next generation of world-leading researchers.

If you are interested in participating in ALLIANCE to develop a joint project between Hamburg and Lund in the field of image processing and machine learning, please register below.
