Abstract:

 

In an impressive work, Maulik and Okounkov use among other things symplectic manifolds to construct actions of braid groups geometrically and use this to define 

‘Lie algebras of the 21st century’. In this talk I will explain in colloquium style main ideas of this construction using explicitly the geometry of Grassmannians and integrale systems, in particular the 5-vertex model with the focus on an explicit concrete model. If time allows I will briefly indicate how this fits into the family of bow varieties and 3D mirror symmetry.
