Feedback Statistics School Mainz 2011
  • In general well recieved.
  • Probably needs even more time for tutorials - especially for the first ones and since this time there were a lot of real beginners.
  • Skip one topic and have more tie for the basics in the next introductory school?
  • Virtualmachine prooved to be very useful, but it would be good to ensure that
  • everybody goes through all preparatory steps (including the 'optional' ones) mentioned on indico before the Workshop
  • basic programs like emacs, ps/pdf viewers etc. are installed (it complicates things if people have to learn a new editor...
  • About the feedback questionaires, Frank will send an email to all lectureres whether it is OK if the feedback to their lectures is public to everybody. Withgreen light he willscan them and send around.
    • Frank, will you evaluate inany case the questions that are answerd by just marking?

Advanced Statistics School in Autumn
Suggested topics are limits (details, differences of methods, etc.) and data combination (e.g. using Blobel's constraint least square fit program 'aplcon').
For example two days on limits (maybe for half a day invite 'experts' to report in most recent discussions?) and one for the combination. That would be a four day workshop, including travel.
Shabnaz and Frank are willing to help, Olaf as well with local organisation at DESY. Gero would discuss with Blobel.
Possible time is last week in September and first three in October. Everybody agreed to send Gero conflicting dates (but only Kevin did). So far it looks like this (including events at DESY that could block rooms):
  • Sept 26-30: theory workshop at DESY (many rooms blocked), CMS Germany (26+27)
  • Oct 3-7: ATLAS week (4-7)
  • Oct 10-14: LHC precision prediction for pedestrians, ZEUS analysis week Mo-We (but SR 4 basically free), start of semester at e.g. Uni Dortmund
  • Oct 17-21: H1 collaboration meeting Tue+Wed (but should not block), start of semester at e.g. Uni Hamburg, LMU, Humbold Uni Berlin
  • Oct 24: start of semester at e.g. Uni Göttingen

Schools in 2012
Shabnaz raised the idea that one could make an advanced workshop with teams competing to solve a task/do an analysis - that would probably need to more closely involve the physics groups.

Group life
Topic only shortly touched:
"If there is not common project, it is hard to create a group around it."
Gero lists topics that are currently related to the group
Unfolding, lvmini@ROOT, Millepede II, General Broken Lines (GBL) track fit, BAT, TMVA.
The idea to have an overview meeting on that did not get any opposition (but no strong supoport either).

AOB
Claus Kleinwort more or less agreed to give a analysis seminar talk on the GBL June 30.
