Description
Single-shot waveform recorders are required for electron bunch diagnostics, studies of coherent THz radiation emitted by various sources (such as CTR, CSR and THz FELs), as well as fully table-top applications. We present here a set of projects aiming at recording electric fields in single-shot with THz bandwidth, and/or at high repetition rates. A main research direction has been to explore solutions using chirped laser probe pulses (i.e., the methods known as spectral decoding and photonic time-stretch). The methods already allowed high repetition rate single-shot THz waveform measurements (well above 1 MHz) in various facilities, including SOLEIL, KARA, and DESY, as we will see. However, in those THz waveform recording systems, retrieving the signal under interest also presented a difficult theoretical challenge, since its introduction in 1998. We will also present a recent solution to this problem, called diversity electro-optic sampling (DEOS), as well as ongoing plans in the framework of the PhLAM-DESY collaboration.
