Description
Superconducting undulators (SCUs) can reach, for the same gap and period length, higher fields than the competing permanent magnet technology, allowing increases in the spectral range and the brilliance. At the synchrotron ANKA (ANgstrom source KArlsruhe) we have a research and development program to develop SCUs that focuses on their application in third generation light sources. In this contribution we report on the status of the development performed in collaboration with the company Babcock Noell GmbH (BNG). The effort done to develop instruments and tools for quality assessment of the magnetic field of superconducting undulators and for understanding the beam heat load mechanisms in a cold bore is also described.
