1) RH introduced the plan for June:

  • June is dedicated to the setup of a prototype of a DOI server, because we, IT, have DataCite credentials of L, the issue #1192, is not a showstopper for us, rather nice-to-have. Paul confirms it was meant for the long term. To do: IT knowledge needs to be merged.
  • Collect input for any user requirements in regard of the Face2Face SciCat collaboration meeting in July, called SciCatCON2024.

and gave an update:

  • We recieved a written answer by Max, see attachment "DESY_proposal_use_case_20240530.pdf", regarding the disentanglement of our IDs (“DESYCase.pdf) sent middle of April. Short summary of his answer: One that enables us to go into production, the other one would be of “large benefit to the collaboration” but also involves a dedicated person to “refactor code”. ACTION item: meet with Paul and Frank to follow common line.

2) Igor K

  • presented his updates, basically a list of items he has already done (green), items that are ongoing (yellow) and to be done (uncolored). He estimates it’s 40% of the load and he will be done by autumn (end of Sep, Nov). Code that is already merged into a PR will -as soon it ends up in a new stable release- also be available to DESY SciCat instances.
  • mentioned a new collaboration of SciCat developers and a the University of Rochester, New York, who had done systematic research on improving the UI for PDB. Their method would be to interview users. Paul M mentioned in this context that PaNet is aiming for improved user experience by using agreed ontologies for describing experimental techniques at DESY beamlines, ie PETRA and FLASH. Maybe here are synergies?

3) Tim W reported of progess on public-data.desy.de (SciCat server without login):

  • Together with a postdoc from CAU, Kiel, Julia, they set up a guinea pig of an ingestor to public-data.de. Now they are testing it (time scale weeks). You need a ready JSON as input. Contact him directly incase you want to test your data as well.
  • His part: provide script to make ingesting via CURL a little easier.
  • for future: add meta data schema validation.

Planned next week’s meeting SCT on 10th of June: DESY related github issues.
