Welcome to the KMPB School 2024 on Algebraic Structures in Quantum Field Theory. The KMPB (Kolleg Mathematik Physik Berlin) is an interdisciplinary center at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and its community of research groups shares a mutual interest in mathematics and physics. Quantum Field Theory is the unifying theme, which connects to algebraic geometry, number theory and differential geometry in mathematics, as well as research in particle physics, gravitation and string theory in physics.

In the spirit of the KMPB, the school aims at generating synergies between mathematicians and physicists working in these areas and welcomes PhD as well as advanced Master's Students, possibly also early career Postdocs of both fields.

The school will consist of three main courses, each with six hours of lectures. These are supplemented by two parallel introductory courses, one for physicists and one for mathematicians, to familiarize all participants with the necessary background material. The introduction for physicists will explain the algebraic objects needed to study QFT formally. Mathematicians are introduced to QFT and the language physicists use to describe it. There will also be a series of research talks.

The three courses cover the following topics:

  • W-algebras (Tomáš Procházka)
  • Factorization algebras (Owen Gwilliam)
  • Operads and homotopy algebras (Coline Emprin)

The introductory courses will run under the following names:

  • Introduction to QFT for mathematicians (Rob Klabbers and Anne Spiering)
  • Mathematical prerequisites for physicists (Niklas Martensen and Jan Pulmann)

The research talks will be:

  • Assembly of factorization algebras (Claudia Scheimbauer)
  • Topic tbd (Benoit Vicedo)
