PETRA IV - The Ultimate 4D X-ray Microscope

The upgrade of PETRA III to PETRA IV will result in the world's brightest X-ray source for the next decades, enabling high-resolution 3D imaging of heterogeneous materials in real time, pushing spatial resolution towards the atomic scale, and allowing local quantitative measurements of physical and chemical properties from nanometric to macroscopic dimensions, enabling multi-scale imaging.

I will present the scope of the project and focus on the unique scientific opportunities that will be enabled by the outstanding properties of DESY's next-generation photon source PETRA IV.
